According to the results of the Russian Organization of High Social Efficiency national contest arranged by the Ministry of Economic Development and Commerce in cooperation with The Federal Education Agency, Belgorod State University has become one of the winners three times. This fact is evidence of the good social activity level of the University.

The University authorities strive for providing the students and the faculties with comfortable living conditions, stable financial position and plenty of opportunities for entertainment and improving health of both teachers and students. Every year at our university various social activities are implemented aimed at increasing the teachers’ salaries, building houses for teachers, caring for children and the elderly, preparing recreational facilities for summer holidays, and providing the staff with social security benefits.

On the 2nd of November 2001 Belgorod State University became one more Institution of Higher Education that has its own church. That day the archbishop of Belgorod and Stariy Oskol Ioan dedicated a church that was built in honor of Archangel Gabriel who is henceforth spiritual patron of university students.

Missionary work of the church is provided by holding of conferences, seminars, lectures, conversations, panel discussions with students and teachers of BSU and others Belgorod Institutions of Higher Education on different themes concerned mental revival of individual, family, nation and state. The parish publishes monthly newspaper and provides orthodox movies watching with following discussion.

Saint Gabriel Archangel belongs to the University Church Association in Russian Intstitutions of Higher Education association. This association was established with the blessing of His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexis II.

The beneficiary of Saint Gabriel’s Church is the priest Alexis Bekorukov. He finished faculty of physics of Moscow State University and Orthodox Saint Tychonof Theological Institute. Не is a senior professor of Christian history and anthropology chair of social-theological department of BelSU.

History museum of BelSU was set up in October 2002.

Both guests and students begin to acquaint with the University as a rule by visiting the museum. Here one can see the old pictures with the most important moments of our life, read the first issue of university newspaper, feast eyes with our gold sport medals or take pictures against the banner background. The excursions that are held for the guests by museum employees leave nobody indifferent. On museum view the material, graphic and written artifacts concerned history and current life of our University are presented. Some of them are unique as they belong to 1876 year when by order of the Ministry of Public Education in a district town Belgorod the 9th pedagogical Institute in Russia was established.

Russian famous scientists, politicians, cultural figures and others visited the University museum and left their kind words in guestbook.

BSU Pharmacy as a university structural subdivision was opened in June 2005. It’s functioning was connected with the necessity to solve a number of problems that can raise general education level of pharmaceutical department students and post-graduates and also provide people with medicine of high quality at the lowest price.

Nowadays the Pharmacy let solve the most difficult technological and management problems, problems of pharmaceutical analysis etc. Students, post-graduates, university staff scientists observe various researches on the base of BelSU Pharmacy. In cooperation with university chairs professionals develop new knowledge-intensive programs. Among fields of concern are the following:

Students which would be pharmaceutical chemists are taught and do practical work in the chemist’s laboratories;
Psychoneurologist is in conference free of charge;
A few times BelSU Pharmacy was a diploma winner of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry exhibition.
There are informational and educational articles on the Pharmacy interactive Web site. It helps you to sort out various medicines.

Wonderful Pharmacy interior was planned on the pattern of the Stockholm Pharmacy of the beginning of XIX century. Spacious hall, mosaic floor, wooden shelving produce a great impression.

The youth cultural centre

BelSU Youth Cultural center was established in 2001. Nowadays there are 11 creative teams that work in different art styles in this great microcosm. People’s love and different awards in national and international competitions prove the high professional level of university’s talents. Professionals of «Extrim» design studio create splendid onstage dresses that show artists character uniqueness.

YCS specialists help university departments and chairs to organize and hold activities, write scripts, record phonograms. Every year on the stage of the Youth Cultural Center take place more than 400 hundred activities that can visit more than 150 thousands people.

We have 3015 rooms in 4 students’ dormitories of the BelSU campus. Every dormitory is interesting and unique in its own way, and may define the life of the students who live there. The students from all regions of Russia and 40 foreign countries are housed here. Young people from Ecuador, Moldova, Brazil, Azerbaijan, China, Palestine, Jordan, Albania and Georgia live in the dormitories.

Dormitory № 4 is the pride of the University. It is of a wonderful architectural and modern aesthetic design of house-type living sections and quarters. There is cable TV, telephone, computer net in every room. Our students live in cosy two and three-room sections.

The dormitory is like a big comfortable house. The students can ask for help every staff member. The gym gives the opportunity to keep a good shape. Physical activity helps not only to strengthen and build up muscles, but also to rest after the lectures. Dancing halls and the chess club are also to your service. Every non-resident student of BelSU can get a room in one of the comfortable dormitories of the University. The activity of the local authorities is aimed at the unity of the multinational students’ groups and at the creation of the sense of pride for the native dormitory and the University as a whole.

BelSU Catering Service

Catering service has been established on the basis of the BelSU catering centre.

Catering service includes 2 refectories, 12 canteens, 3 banquet halls for 200 seats, as well as VIP-room for 28 seats and student café «Nadezda» for 100 seats, where students have a rest and celebrate weddings.

Nutrition is extremely important for human beings. Qualitative and full nutrition is first of all health, good state of mind and well-being. Knowing it, we provide our visitors only with health food. Year by year we keep evolving, perfecting quality, expand the assortment of products.

Owing to modern equipment catering centre can use high technology. Catering centre is the base for young specialist training – future cooks. Students of specialized schools practice in the BelSU.

The seminars on the subject of improvement the quality of production and expansion of assortment are held there. To research the demand, consumer conferences are also held.

Not only teachers, employees and students, but also numerous conference members are welcomed to BelSU canteens and cafes. Annually catering centre serves more than a hundred events. We are very glad to see everybody who comes here!

In the year of 130th BelSU anniversary central complex of the university buildings was enriched by a new wonderful construction - Svetlana Khorkina’s Sport Complex. She is a graduate of our University, famous sportswoman, World and Olympic champion.

There is no such a building at any regional Russian universities. The square of the building is 36,7 m². There are all conditions not only for training exercises and physical perfection of students, teachers and employees and for competitions of University athletes, but also for national and international sports competitions.

Not only students and teachers, but also town and region population can take exercises, outdoor activity in comfort conditions, dive into the music and movement, relax from day-to-day routine and problems.

In the complex there are multifunctional game hall with stands for 700 seats, where volleyball, basketball and mini-football competitions take place.

There is field-and- track with a 200 meter running track as well as 60 meter running track, a warm-up track, sectors for high and long jump, pole-jumping, triple jump, shot-put. This hall can hold up to 600 spectators.

Gymnastic centre consists of gymnastic hall (750 m²) with the balcony for 160 seats and practice hall. On the third floor there are dancing-halls, aerobics and ping-pong halls.

The BelSU sport complex includes cafes for 50 seats and training classrooms for athletes and spectators to feel comfortable.

Nowadays, as well as before, people want to go riding. It is a wonderful means of a person’s physical development and perfection, active rest, unity with nature and forming of a comprehensively developed personality. The center activity is aimed at the development of tourism, sport, comfortable leisure and health improving. We invite you to visit this splendid centre of cultural leisure, centre of development and communication.

Equestrian sport school (ESS) – one of the leading departments of the Centre today – has got 2 new modern stables for 40 horses each. It also includes garages for cars, storehouses and a specially equipped horse-carrying transport. About 30 employees work in ESS and a perspective generation of sportsmen is brought up there. The specialists of the Centre give consultations for ESS of other Russian cities. Close patronage contacts have been set with military units, administration of the regions and enterprises.

Many pupils from different schools of Belgorod and the region, the students of the universities, foreign delegations from different countries come to the Complex to have the excursions.

Lately our horsemen made us happy by showing their achievements. They took part in the competitions in different cities and got gold and bronze medals.

The next point of the center development is a creation of the Rehabilitation centre for disabled children. The main function of a center will be aimed at providing a complex of medical services with the use of a dosed riding – horse-therapy. One of the most important tasks of the rehabilitation centre is to provide the necessary conditions when a child with disabilities can join the society as well as children of his age, get professional skills, go in for sports.

The Belgorod horsemen and their charges have become the real decoration of our city. One of their attendances is riding the children in schools and kindergartens, weddings and celebrations services.

Nature national park «Nezhegol»

The nature park «Nezhegol» includes: the territory of the nature park that is situated in a picturesque place of Belgorod region, botanical garden and winter garden of BelSU.

The nature park «Nezhegol» is a peculiar natural ensemble that includes various native territories. Here one can find rich collections of plants that present the variety of the Earth flora. The results of the scientific activity add popularity and recognition to the park, arouse the visitors’ interest and make it the real live museum of nature.

The earth of the Belgorod region is rich in unique natural landscapes and original archaeological and geological history. The nature park “Nezhegol” has been created on the picturesque bank of Nezhegol and Seversky Donec rivers that is 25 km. southbound the regional centre. In the environs of the park there is a recreation area. Here one can find a lot of recreation centers and sports- sanitary centers, including the educational sanitary centre of BelSU. The pine forest of the natural park creates a unique microclimate that is strongly felt in hot summer days. The air rich in pine and steppe aromas makes you feel dizzy.

The basic natural value of the park is considered to be the alternation of mixed broad-leaved forests and unique steppes. Research workers, teachers and students of the University study the rich flora and fauna of this region and the peculiarity of its geological structure and archeological finds. The territory of the natural park is the small-scale Belgorod region. On a comparatively small territory one can find almost all types of bioplex and landscapes of the Belgorod region.

Since ancient times this area has attracted people with its unique beauty and a convenient location at the place of junction of two formerly navigable rivers. The proof of it is the monument on the territory of the park - the ancient caves mined in the steppe slopes and later covered have been discovered here. They still keep their centuries-old mysteries.

Botanical garden

The botanical garden of BelSU was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the Head of the Belgorod region government E.S. Savchenko. At present it is the youngest botanical garden in Russia. This area is 68 hectares, more than half of which are natural and standing forests about 30 years old.

The preservation of biodiversity in nature and culture, the creation of collection resources are the strategic tasks of all botanical gardens. For the last several years hundreds of patterns of woody plants have been planted in the arboretum of our botanical garden.

The main direction of scientific effort: the study of the regional flora, rare and vanishing species of the Central Black Earth zone preservation; the introduction of new perspective and unusual species to the culture; the variety study and plants selection; the study of biological peculiarities, chemistry and consumer value of fruit and herb specimens.

The research workers have published a lot of articles and monographs, including the ones published abroad.

Dendrology department of the garden has gathered on the territory more than 600 specimens of trees and bushes that are planted on the geographical principle.

The cultivated and ornamental plants department has got the collection of more than 1000 specimens and kinds of fruit, berry, floral-ornamental and herb plants.

The herbarium included 256 specimens of herbaceous vegetation typical of the Belgorod region.

Cooperation: We have made contacts with scientific and private institutes and botanical gardens of the USA, Germany, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.

The seeds exchange is made with the Head Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin; Botanical Gardens of Mari State Technical University; Nuremberg, Petrozavodsk, Voronezh, Rostov and Riga state universities and other scientific establishments.

The Botanical Garden is a research base for many faculties of BelSU. The students of Chairs of Botany, Geoecology and rational nature-use, Pharmacy take field practice, work at their diploma projects and make excursions there.

Winter Garden

The Winter Garden of Belgorod State University exists since March, 2002.

The collection of the winter garden includes hundreds of specimens from various ecological zones of the Earth: tropical, subtropical and desert plants. Besides, there are 5 species of birds, 5 species of reptiles, animals and more than 20 species of decorative fish in the greenhouse.

The garden is the favorite resting place for students, staff-members and guests of the University.

Tuapse – is a recreation area

Easy-going and placid summer on the amazing shores of the Black sea in Krasnodar Region, town Tuapse. Beautiful nature, health treatments, sanatorium nourishment are there in the recreation centre. Interesting excursions, new meetings and souvenirs can be easily found in Tuapse. Annually 1500 students and teaching staff of BelSU can go there free of charge.
