Today BelSU cooperates under bilateral agreements with more than 67 foreign universities and scientific organizations of Germany, USA, Italy, Finland, Japan, China, Ukraine, Belorussia, Moldova and other countries.

For the last two years BelSU has signed and prolonged in total more than 20 international treaties and cooperation agreements with universities of different countries, including such outstanding foreign universities as Louisville University, York University, University of South California (USA), Dezhou University (China), Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland), University of Bergamo(Italy), Bratislava University (Slovakia), Oldenburg University (Germany), Kharkov National University (Ukraine), Belorussian National Technical University (Belorussia), Pridnestrovsk State University (Moldova) and others.

Since 2004 one of the most important areas of university’s international activity in educational sphere is enlargement of partnership relations with universities of Chinese Peoples Republic. The main university partners are Dezhou University, Chinese Oil University and Dalian Foreign Studies University. In accordance with interuniversity cooperation agreements BelSU carries out training of Chinese students from Dalian and Chinese universities on educational programs of inclusive study. A high-scale joint project with Dezhou University is training of students on different Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as a part of Dual Diploma program.

Long-term cooperation between BelSU and educational institutions of Germany is very productive and versatile.

The basis of partnership relations with Oldenburg University is interaction between Biology and Chemistry Faculty and its partner in Oldenburg - Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry, with which an active scientific and academic exchange has been since 2004. Professors from Germany give lectures for students and methodological seminars for teaching staff regularly. Every year students and post-graduate students of Biology and Chemistry Faculty have internship work in Germany and take part in co-developing of international grants in different fields.

Long-term cooperation between BelSU and educational institutions of North Rhine-Westphalia is also very productive. The beginning of this partnership was the cooperation agreement in educational sphere signed by Ministry of Youth and Children's Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia and Ministry of Education of the RF in 1992. For the last 10 years more than 1.5 thousand of teaching employees of the RF and Germany have taken part in international seminars, more than 300 of them have had internship work in partner-country; all these facts prove the immensity of the cooperation. Under this cooperation about 10 joint projects have been implemented.

Since 2005 BelSU has established partner relationship and signed a cooperation agreement with Emerald Cultural Institute (Ireland). Under this agreement students of all faculties of BelSU have the opportunity to improve their English language skills in one of the major Language schools in Dublin, having internship work in summer English language courses. At the end of their studying students get International Certificates of English Language courses abroad.

Since 2007 BelSU has signed a cooperation agreement with Russian-Brazilian Alliance of Higher Education. The main aim of this agreement is pre-university training of Brazilian students and their future studying in BelSU. Every year teachers of the International Faculty travel to San-Paulo to train students.

Scientific units of BelSU carry out serious scientific-research work in Nanotechnologies field in cooperation with Bremen University (Germany); Scientific Research Institute of Mineral Resources of Queensland University (Australia); The University of Technology of Lappeenranta (Finland); Kharkov National University named after V.N.Karazin. The staff of the Centre of Nanostructural materials and Nanotechnologies in cooperation with their co-workers from National Institute of Material Science (Tsukuba, Japan) implement nowadays grant project supported by RFBR.

Friendly and mutually beneficial relations are established between BelSU, the Ukraine and Belarus partners represented by such major institutions as Belarus State University, Gomel State University, Donetsk National University, Poltava State Pedagogical University, Odessa National Law University, Tavrichesky National University, Kharkov National University, Kharkov National Polytechnical University and others. These relationships are based on Memorandum of establishment of Bordering Belarus-Russian-Ukrainian University Consortium signed in 2003 . The main goal of the Consortium is to enhance the higher education quality by arrangement and coordination of cooperation between classical universities located in the adjoining regions of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

The agreements with Belorussian National Technical University and National Scientific Center "Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology” are directed to carry out the joint scientific researches in the fields of material science and nanotechnology; the agreement with Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova is in the field of earth remote sensing technologies and GIS technologies.

Since 2009 BelSU has been participating in implementation of the international project “Quality Facilitating Mechanisms of the internationalization process control in the university” under the TEMPUS IV program developed under the auspices of the Department of International Affairs in association with other 11 universities of 9 European countries. The grant is appealed to open a new page in improvement of organizational and service infrastructure of BelSU in order to carry out international academic mobility programs productively in accordance with the Quality Assurance Plan and the Bologna Declaration. The grant’s implementation is considered to lay down the foundation for further increasing the academic exchange at BelSU.

In a frame of this project in May and June 2010 five representatives of our university took part in workshops and training seminars organized by the European universities partners in Poland, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.

In May 2009 Ministry of Education and Science summed up the results of the Open University contest, where universities for Shanghai Cooperation Organization University (SCO) have been chosen. SCO University will function as a group of already-existing universities in SCO member-states (China, Russia, Kazakstan, Tajikistan, Kirgizia) and also observer-countries (Mongolia, India, Iran, Pakistan). Affiliation with it opens up new vistas for our students and scientists in academic mobility development.

For many years Belgorod State University is also a member of Eurasian Association of Universities and International Association of Academies of Sciences.
