Research is conducted within the BSU Multicultural identity and linguistic categorization research project at the faculty (GRNTI codes 16.21.00; 13.07.00).

The project is headed by Arkady P. Sedykh, PhD in philology, professor. Leading scholars are Alexander M/ Amatov, Doctor of Philology, professor of Department of the English Language and Teaching Methods, Elena A. Ogneva, Doctor of Philology, head of the Department of Foreign Languages.

The department of Foreign Languages Develops Modeling and interpretation of knowledge formats research project (leading scholar E.A. Ogneva).

  • Natalya A. Besedina, PhD in philology, professor; expertise: cognitive grammar, cognitive semantics, the author of the theory of morphological representation in language. Member of the Russian Association of Cognitive Linguists (RACL), Vice-President of RACL, expert of RACL;
  • Alexander M. Amatov, PhD in philology, professor; expertise: language evolution, paradigmatic syntax, critical discourse analysis;
  • Svetlana N. Stepanenko, candidate in philology, associate professor; expertise: cognitive semantics. Member of RACL;

Key research results

Faculty teachers annually publish papers in the scientific and methodological journals from the list of HAC, RISC, Scopus, participate in grant competitions by RHF, RNF, Vladimir Potanin Foundation, organize conferences at various levels.

PhD, Professor N.A. Besedina developed a theory of morphological representation, provides a new explanation of the mechanism of formation of meaning in the process of speech generation.

Faculty teachers are involved in updating the content of foreign languages teaching technologies. Under The multicultural identity and the problem of linguistic categorization cognitive-communicative typology of linguistic identity, semiotic principles, mechanisms of linguistic categorization, models for the analysis of verbal interpretation of verbal complexes are developed. The project leader, professor A.P. Sedykh has published over 150 works, including 6 monographs and a Russian-French dictionary. He has 19 authors certificates for registered databases. He is a guest professor at the Mogilev State University (Belarus) and the University of Cergy-Pontoise (France) where he regularly lectures and engaged in active research activities. He is the organizer, director and member of several scientific international conferences and workshops, both in our country and abroad (Belarus, France). Under his tutelage 5 candidate dissertations were defended.

Professor S.A. Moiseeva successfully directs the research work on cognitive and cultural linguistics, interpretation of texts, linguistic analysis of literary texts. She repeatedly acted as the official opponent at the doctoral and candidate. Under the tutelage of S.A. Moiseeva 8 candidate dissertations were defended. She is the organizer of the four scientific conferences at the faculty.leads a research under RHF grant.

The Linguistic horizons and Experientia est optima magistra International conferences are held annually at the Faculty.

The Faculty's alumni in scholar, educational and methodological activities

Faculty Pride is its alumni, including PhDs, Honored teachers and worker of education of the Russian Federation, school principals, heads of preschool educational institutions, winner of the best teachers contests. Faculty alumni successfully manage regional and municipal educational departments, work in municipal and regional administration in the management of education, culture and social protection.

Currently, the Faculty employs over 30 teachers who are its graduates.

Among the Facultys alumni are the Honored Teachers Galina I. Gavrilova, Marina V. Konovko, Lyudmila I. Sizikova.
