About Institute

The Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology of Belgorod State University was founded on September 1, 2018. The Institute included 2 faculties - pharmaceutical and biological-chemical.

There are more than 1,500 students, more than 600 foreign students; more than 20 doctors and 55 candidates of science in the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology includes today.

The Institute’s laboratories are equipped with equipment that allows them to carry out educational and research work at the level of international standards. The Faculty of Pharmacy was established at Belgorod State University in 2007 on the basis of the specialty “Pharmacy” of the Faculty of Medicine, which carried out the first admission of students in 2003.

The Biology and Chemistry Department was opened at the Belgorod Pedagogical Institute on September 1, 1966, a year later it was transformed into the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, and in 1988 the Faculty was renamed to natural-geographical.

2 faculties were created on the basis of the natural-geographical faculty in 2002: geological-geographical and biological-chemical. There were 5 departments of biological and chemical profile left in the structure of the reconstituted biochemical faculty, which trained both graduates of classical specialties and teachers of biology and chemistry.

In 2014, the faculty became a part of the Institute of Engineering Technologies and Natural Sciences, and in 2015 it was transformed into biology and chemistry department of the Institute of Information Technologies and Natural Sciences. During these years, the preparation of teachers was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Pedagogical Institute of the Belgorod State University, and the biology and chemical department focused on the training of the researchers. Since 2014, the direction has been producing not only classical, but also engineering bachelors.

The deans of the faculty for the 50 years of its existence were A.A. Khizhnyak, A.F. Kolchanov, G.A. Vlasov, A.V. Prisny, G.M. Fofanov, O.E. Lebedeva.

Today the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology is an unique institute providing multidisciplinary training of specialists for the educational and scientific clusters. We train specialists in the following areas: Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Food technology. Scientific research is carried out in the following locations: BSU pharmacy, analytical laboratories, pharmaceutical production laboratories, industrial cooking areas. For, example, the Department of Biotechnology is provided with modern equipment that allows for the cultivation of microorganisms-bioproducers, obtaining DNA preparations, PCR, gel electrophoresis, lyophilization and other technological operations. The department includes International Laboratory of Applied Biotechnology, conducting high-level scientific research.
