The Institute of Engineering Technology and Natural Science hosted 'RoboStart', the first open regional robotics festival.
More than 200 young engineers from the schools, lyceums and colleges of Belgorod, Kursk and Voronezh Regions participated in the festival. Participants could enter robots in Lego and/or Open categories, and competed in events including, 'Corridor Rallying', 'Short Track Racing', 'Jumps and Flips', 'Sumo' and 'Draughtsman'. Young engineers presented a variety of projects at the festival, from a robot powered by environmentally friendly hydrogen fuel, to a robot 'Gardener' able to transplant trees.
The Institute also held a design competition for 3D models, where the main judge was Dr Igor Konstantinov, the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activity. Competition judges were made up of students and Master's students from the Department of Mathematical and Software Information Systems. They noted that the hottest 'battles' took place in the 'Sumo' competition, where about sixty teams competed for victory. Team 'PANDA' from Kursk won a deserved victory.
Participants at the festival competed all day, and the list of winners covers representatives from almost all participating Regions. The winners and runners-up were awarded diplomas, certificates, and valuable prizes, as well as souvenirs of the occasion, in a fittingly solemn atmosphere. Prizes were also awarded by the audience, including one for the 'Will to Win'.
At the end of the festival, Dr Yury Chashin, Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical and Software Information Systems, thanked all the participants and asserted that the organisers would try to make this festival a tradition, saying,
“For the first time we held a festival on robotics at the university and, I confess, we were pleasantly surprised by such a large number of participants. We had 208 participants, 32 coaches, and more than 400 people watched and participated in the events. We will continue to follow the progress of participants in the festival and will be glad to see them among our students in the very near future.”Photo Gallery
