Our Students Win an Inter-Regional Medical Competition

Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) played host to 'Stress Factor', the first inter-regional competition devoted to recognising and treating psychological trauma among young people

120 students in 14 teams came, from Higher Education Establishments across Kursk and Belgorod Regions, to take part in the competition. The first of two stages was aimed at testing participants for their knowledge of the main signs of psychological trauma as manifested in behaviour, the statistical likelihood of such behaviour, and the usual characteristics of interaction with victims. The next stage was about teams demonstrating their practical skills in these situations. For the last two months, the students have been collecting data on various emotional states, such as aggression, psychomotor agitation, apathy, and hysteria. This stage proved the most difficult for both participants and organisers alike, but the professionals, from the Psychological Services Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kursk Region, were impressed by the authenticity in the scenarios as presented by the teams, and their skill levels.
The two top teams were both from the Pedagogical Institute's Department of Psychology. Team 'SAT' led by Sofia Schekina, with Anastasia Vyskrebentseva and Timur Shvalyuk, won the competition. Team 'Belogoria' came second, led by Diana Brazhnik, alongside Daria Vorotyntseva and Elena Taldykina.
After the morning's contest, the afternoon was devoted to classes given by the professionals and teachers involved in the field.
