Festival of International Culture

The 'Synergy' Festival of International Culture kicked off in Shebekino, a town about 20km from Belgorod, which featured representatives of Belgorod State University's many foreign students

Our foreign students come mostly from Vietnam, Benin, Togo, El Salvador, Armenia, Syria, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Moldova. The majority of these cultures were represented at the festival, which was sponsored by Shebekino City Council, Belgorod Regional Youth Affairs Department, Belgorod Regional Culture Department, and the local church Diocese of Belgorod and Stary Oskol. The festival was broken down into four sections themed around faith, international youth associations, youth community work, and officials involved in youth work. Our colleague Dr Elena Nazarenko, who runs the University's Centre for Cross-Cultural Communication, gave a lecture on the subject of foreign student participation in student governance structures of the University. She highlighted the value of national forums and gatherings. Her Centre is a focus of cultural activity in the University, and she underlined the need for higher educational establishments across the Federation to learn from each other, and stay in contact.
