BelSU studies global climate change

Global climate change is one of the most pressing problems of our time. Russian and American scientists conducted a joint study to assess climate change in the northern hemisphere. The Russian side was represented by employees of BelSU Institute of Earth Sciences: associate professors of the Department of Geography, Geoecology and Life Safety Maria Lebedeva and Olga Krymskaya, head of the department of nature management and land cadastre Yury Chendev, associate professor of the same department Alexander Soloviev. The American side was represented by climatologist Prof. Anthony Lupo from the University of Missouri.

The results of studying large-scale atmospheric processes, as one of the most important factors of climate formation and the dynamics of such climatic characteristics as temperature and precipitation, showed an increase in the average annual values ​​of these indicators on both continents (for example, model regions - Belgorod Oblast and Missouri), but in the Belgorod region the amount of precipitation does not compensate for the increase in the temperatures of the warm season, which indicates a tendency towards increased aridity in central Eastern Europe.

The joint work of Russian and American scientists was presented in July at the XXVII General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesic and Geophysics (IUGG) in Montreal (Canada), where it interested specialists from different countries.
