NRU BelSU researchers developed a new technology of essential oil extraction from pink-buds in cooperation with partners from RUDN

The results of the applied research which was supported by the World-Class Research and Education Centre "Innovative Solutions in Agribusiness" in Belgorod Region proved to have a high potential of the solvent material used in phytotechnology

As it was noted by the Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology Elena Zhilyakova, the technology provides for high yield of compounds characterized by therapeutic properties from essential oil plants by the use of Novec 1230 Novec 7100 perfluororganic solvent material.

The pink-buds were used as raw material since their extractions are widely used in medical, perfume and food industries today. The biologically active agents of this plant demonstrate valuable pharmacological properties. Thus, eugenic acid as the basic component of the essential oil having antimicrobial, anesthetic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects is produced by extraction method in big quantities.

According to the Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences Nikolay Boyko the use of perfluororganic solvent material demonstrates high effectiveness of the new technology. The researchers believe that the developed method of active agents extraction by perfluororganic solvent material can become a good substitite for the currently used technologies based on application of gas liquids and supercritical fluids.
