Students of Belgorod State University celebrated Old New Year

A linguistic and cultural event dedicated to the traditions of Russian Old New Year celebration was held in the Centre for Intercultural Communication of Belgorod State University

The event organized by the Department for Cultural-Educational Activities of Belgorod State University was attended by Svetlana Ostrikova, the Vice-Rector for Educational and Youth Policy, mentors and tutors of international communities, university students, including international students of Preparatory Department who have recently arrived in Russia.

The young people learnt about the origin of the custom to celebrate New Year's Eve twice (the first time on 31st December and the second time on 13th January), and they were acquainted with the Old New Year's Eve traditions. The event participants and guests were told about Good Evening and the dishes that are served on this day, the tradition to make dumplings with different fillings and surprises inside. Those present also participated in the Shedrovaniye scene and tasted dumplings with predictions for the year.

As part of the event the international students sang old tunes about what matters most in different languages so congratulating everyone visiting the party and watched the online broadcast on social media.

While summing up the meeting, Svetlana Ostrikova gave sweet gifts to all the participants and noted that Russian Old New Year allows us to extend the atmosphere of a holiday and once again gives us the opportunity to congratulate our loved ones and share our feelings.
