History

The Institute of Engineering Technology and Natural Science was created by order of the Rector of Belgorod State National Research University of July 7, 2014 583-ML and brought together 3 faculties and some departments: including Faculty of Information Technologies and Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering and Physics and Faculty of Biology and Chemistry and Information Management Department.

The Institute today

The main objective of the Institute is to achieve the synergistic effect from combining engineers, biologists, physicists, chemists, mathematicians and programmers. This trend can be seen in the increasing demand of the society for the natural science education.

Students are taught in accordance with the European standards of Higher Education at three continuous levels: undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate study.

The main effort of the Institute is focused on training specialists in the sphere of engineering and natural science.

Maintenance supplies of the educational process and the research work

Modern equipment of the University laboratories enables to provide practice-oriented training based on the high-tech equipment.

Different engineering problems including ones connected with mathematics and informatics are solved with the help of supercomputer Nezhegol. It is equipped with powerful programming features ANSYS and Matlab which enable to solve effectively modeling problems of physical, chemical, biological and signal processing. Currently this supercomputer helps to carry out the Institute scientific projects connected with the object identification of the Earth's surface images, image classification, image filtering and speech processing.

Supercomputer "Nezhegol"

Within the framework of cooperation with the major Russian communications provider PJSC "MTS" an innovative social project was implemented, and the "MTS Laboratory" was opened, which allows students to study new digital technologies based on operating equipment. Jointly with PJSC "Rostelecom", the Laboratory of Multiservice Communication Networks was equipped, for practical training the multi-service access node SI3000 MSAN (Iskratel) is used. On the basis of the Cisco Regional Networking Academy, the equipment of packet switching networks Cisco Systems operates.

LabRam HR Evolution

Bachelors, masters and postgraduate students have the opportunity to conduct scientific work using cutting-edge research and technological equipment under the guidance of leading specialists from departments, many of whom are scientists of global renown in the field of nanotechnology, material engineering and physics of metals. It provides the highest level of training and the relevance of the teaching material.

Boichemical study combines some classical and modern natural science directions. The Institute is proud of its Zoological museum, valuable herbarium, which is recorded in the international registry and is one of the biggest entomological collections in the Central Black Earth region. The Institute employees are the members of corporate authors of the Red book of exotic and endangered species of the Belgorod region. They also took part in the preparation of the natural resources atlas of the Belgorod region. Developing genomic selection center deals with fundamental researches as well as with solutions of animal husbandry problems. The international scientific laboratory of applied biotechnology was found, and there all efforts of Russian, Armenian, Kazakh and Dutch scientists are combined in the technological sphere of recouping waste stream biogas and plants microclonal propagation.

Experimental production of the bioactive substances:

With an active participation of the scientists of the Institute, a new production the biotechnological center for the production of the lysine sulphate at JSC "Plant of premixes 1" was opened.

There are 12 research areas at the Institute, including 6 in the field of physics and materials science, 4 in the field of biology and chemistry and 2 in the field of information technologies:

  • Research and development of the methods and technologies to produce constructional nanomaterial and ceramics (of the research area Rustam Kaibyshev).
  • Development of scientific bases and creation of solid nanostructured metallic materials with unique properties for new constructional and functional applications (head of the research area Yuri Kolobov).
  • Development of physicochemical fundamentals of creation of new metal and intermetallic based materials and manufacturing process of semifinished products and metal products based on created materials. (head of research area Gennady Salishchev).
  • Creation of hardened condition of metals by physical and mechanical exposure. (head of research area Nikolai Kamyshachenko).
  • Theoretical and experimental basis of condensed mediums in highly dispersed conditions. (head of research area Vladimir Krasilnikov).
  • Interaction of material with energetic particles and radiation. (head of research area Alexander Kubankin).
  • Bioactive substances: discovery, creation and technology (head of research area Viktor Deineka).
  • Biomonitoring of impact territories in the south of the Central Russian Upland (head of research area Vladimir Zakharov, director of the Institute of Sustainable Development, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Co-director Eduard Snegin).
  • Studying of the species and population diversity in the south of the Central Russian Upland (head of research area Alexander Prisnyi).
  • Developing of physicochemical basis of new technologies and materials for technogenic impact inhibiting (head of research area Alexander Vezentsev).
  • Information and communication technologies and computer modeling (head of research area Evgeny Zhilyakov).
  • Research of automated control ecological territory safety (head of research area Olga Ivashchuk).

Research at the Institute

When doing research, both students and faculty receive grants of the President of the Russian Federation, of the Russian Humanitarian Scientific Foundation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian Government, the Governor of Belgorod region, as well as scholarships sponsored by the Charity Funds of Andrey Skoch and Vladimir Potanin.

Academic mobility

Leading faculty and researchers of the Institute within the programs of academic mobility deliver lectures in the universities of Kharkov, while in turn the faculty of Kharkov universities run specialized courses for students of Belgorod State National Research University.

Every year some biology majors from Dezhou University (China) come to the Institute to do the programs of the 3rd and 4th year of studies. Before coming to Belgorod, these students study at their home university according to the special two-year program.

Social work

The Institute observes the traditions of the faculties which are now its members. Among a number of fascinating activities of students life are a Health Day, the Faculty Film Festival, New Year's Party, and Freshmen initiation, to name a few.
