Rewarded for Promoting Russian Language and Culture

Dr Raisa Kuleshova, Director of the Russian Language Testing for Citizens of Foreign Countries, has been given the Ekaterina Motina Medal for services to the Promotion of Russian Language and Culture

Dr Kuleshova and colleagues from BNRU were at the 6th National Conference on 'Russian Language and the Problems of Socio-Cultural Adaptation facing Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation', held at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, in Moscow. The conference brought together a number of influential people. There were government representatives from the Immigration Service, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Rossotrudnichestvo (Russia's International Aid Agency), and the Presidential Council on Inter-Cultural Relations. They were joined by university staff from across the country who work with foreign students, and the heads of the Russian Language Testing Centres, to address current issues around integration.
Dr Vladislav Kuchmisty, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, addressed the plenary session with an in-depth report entitled 'The BNRU Experience of the Comprehensive Exam in Russian as a Foreign Language, Russian History, and the Basics of Russian Legislation, as Opposed to Individual Exams for Russian Language, Russian History and the Basics of Russian Legislation'. Dr Kuchmisty gave a detailed account of our University's experience of operating with the Comprehensive Exam, breaking down the results into categories such as students' country of origin, and brought delegates up to speed with the problems the BNRU experience has revealed.

Dr Kuleshova, who works at the Professional Speaking and Cross-Cultural Communication Department, was given the medal for 'Contribution to the Spread of the Russian Language and Russian Culture in the Modern World'. The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named the award after Ekaterina Motina, a pioneer in the teaching of Russian as a Foreign Language.
